Orland and Patricia Harrison Fund: a gift that keeps on giving
When asked why he created this fund, Orland responded: "Retirement brings many challenges and more than a few surprises to those who fail to seek professional advice. For many years we had planned to reduce taxes with a final bequest to our church and a few favourite charities. It would be fair to say that we had the will but not the way.
After a few chats with Vyrt Sisson, we discussed his ideas with our lawyer and learned that he was involved with a similar community foundation. We received his enthusiastic support and started a Fund when Pat died in June 2010.
We preferred a plan that would eventually provide an annual income in perpetuity. We trusted the professional leadership and loved the idea that our final bequest could, in fact, be a gift that keeps on giving and giving.
The best part - our children and grand children liked the idea too!"
