What is YAC?
The Brant Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a committee made up of young people who want to make a difference in their community.
Our YACs are highly committed, energetic and want to be actively involved shaping the future of their community. As a bonus, YAC membership is a great way to build your resume, gain experience and earn hours of Community Service! YAC members are invited from local high schools. Members must be high school age up to and including 19 years of age.
Our YACs:
- get involved in the community
- provide a youth perspective to the Brant Community Foundation
- learn about our community and the opportunities to become a volunteer, philanthropist and leader
- HAVE FUN!
Children and Youth Grant Program
One of the most important responsibilities of the Youth Advisory Committee is to assist the Foundation to make grant decisions for the Ontario Endowment Fund for Children and Youth in Recreation. The OEFCYR was established in partnership with the Province of Ontario to support participation in healthy and safe recreational activities for children and youth. YAC Members receive and review applications from local organizations that provide services for children and youth.
After careful consideration of the applications and rating them against a set of criteria, the following grants were awarded:
Arnold Anderson Sport Fund
Sports build teamwork, social skills, and self-esteem, producing leaders who contribute positively to the community. The Arnold Anderson Sport Fund is dedicated to helping all youth receive a chance to participate in sports through their “Sponsor A Child” program, which provides financial support toward registration fees for children in Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations, and surrounding areas. The OEFCYR grant allowed the AASF to sponsor 10 children to participate in one 8-week session of swimming lessons and 2 additional children to play in a neighbourhood baseball league. The Brant Community Foundation is happy to support the Arnold Anderson Sport Fund in sponsoring children to participate in sports!
Navy League of Canada Brantford-Brant
The Navy League provides youth ages 9-18 with opportunities for leadership, teamwork, connection, confidence, and fun physical activity through their free after-school programming. The Brant Community Foundation is pleased to support the Navy League with funding for recreational sports equipment!
Nova Vita
Nova Vita is an emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing abuse. Their summer camp, Camp Nova, offers children staying at Nova Vita the opportunity to explore the city through fun activities while creating meaningful connections in a supportive environment. The Brant Community Foundation is thrilled to support Nova Vita in funding children and youth to attend Camp Nova!
STEM Camp
STEM Camp inspires youth through hands-on activities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These activities encourage curiosity and wonder and build confidence and creativity, helping children develop problem-solving skills that can enable them to change the world. The OEFCYR grant assisted in sending 5 youth to camp for one week. The Brant Community Foundation is proud to support this amazing camp for youth in our community!
