Youth Advisory Committee

What is YAC?

The Brant Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is made up of young people who want to make a difference in their community.

Our YAC Members are highly committed, energetic and want to be actively involved in shaping the future of their community. As a bonus, YAC membership is a great way to build your resume, gain experience and earn hours of Community Service! YAC members are invited from local high schools. Members must be high school age up to and including 19 years of age.

Our YAC Members:

  • Get involved in the community.
  • Provide a youth perspective to the Brant Community Foundation.
  • Learn about our community and the opportunities to become a volunteer, philanthropist and leader.
  • HAVE FUN!

The Youth Advisory Committee meets monthly between September and June, on the third Wednesday of the month. There are also 2-3 volunteer days in the community per year.

Or Intake is closed for the 2025-26 year. Intake for 2026-27 will open in April – please check back.

Children and Youth Grant Program

One of the most important responsibilities of the YAC is to assist the foundation to make grant decisions for the Ontario Endowment Fund for Children and Youth in Recreation. The OEFCYR was established in partnership the Province of Ontario, to support participation in healthy and safe recreational activities for children and youth. YAC Members receive and review applications from local organizations that provide services for children and youth.

The Youth Advisory Committee met recently to review grant applications submitted for consideration for the Youth grants.

After careful consideration of the applications and rating them against a set of criteria, the following grants were awarded:

  • Child and Family Services of Grand Erie Foundation: Youth to Camp Program
  • Five Oaks: Rejuvenating Upper Play Area
  • Kids Can Fly: Let’s Play – Early Years
  • Nova Vita Domestic Violence Prevention Services: Camp Nova 2025
  • St. George Children’s Center: Summer Camp
  • Why Not City Missions: Building Self Confidence and Teamwork while Celebrating Achievements
  • YMCA Hamilton Burlington Brantford: Enabling Access Summer Camp
